Police investigating fatal shooting on Dorchester Street

The Franklin Police Department is investigating a shooting on Dorchester Street reported early Saturday morning, September 28, which resulted in the death of a Suffolk man.

An FPD news release said that around 3:12 a.m. Saturday, the City of Franklin Emergency Communications Center began receiving calls about a shooting in the 1600 block of Dorchester Street in Franklin.

“The first units to arrive on scene discovered a vehicle that appeared to have crashed into a home,” FPD officials said. “The occupant of the vehicle appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.”

The release said the occupant of the vehicle was identified as Davon Davis, 37, of Suffolk.

Davis died of his injuries at the scene.

His body was transported to the Norfolk Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

This is an active investigation.

“All residents in the Dorchester Street and Dorchester Square Apartments communities who have cameras are asked to contact us in hopes that we can develop more information regarding this incident,” FPD officials said.

FPD thanked the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, the Southampton County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Virginia State Police for their assistance in this investigation.
