Man guilty of fatal stabbing at Hocking County rental cabin sentenced

LOGAN, Ohio (WCMH) – A man convicted of a fatal stabbing at a Hocking County rental cabin will serve at least 18 years in prison.

On August 26, a Hocking County jury found Isaac Pence, 21, guilty of murder, felonious assault and obstruction of justice for the killing of 22-year-old Charles Starner. Pence, of Carroll, and Starner, of Lancaster, were staying in a rental cabin on Sullivan Road, east of Clear Creek Metro Park and north of the Rockbridge Nature Preserve.

According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Pence stabbed Starner at a cottage party on April 23, 2023. Starner was airlifted to Grant Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two days later, Pence and Sabra Flagg, 21, were found in Fairfield County and arrested. Flagg was charged with obstruction of justice, although both were given $1 million bail.

On Wednesday, a Hocking County judge sentenced Pence to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 18 years.

Flagg’s attorney recently filed a motion for a modification of the plea hearing, which is scheduled to take place Monday, according to court records.
