Five suspects in Mahogany Jackson case face new capital murder indictments

Five people accused of the kidnapping, torture and murder of Mahogany Jackson have now had their charges upgraded from felony murder to capital murder.

Mahogany Jackson was found dead on Monday, February 26, 2024. She had been reported missing the day before.

Jackson’s mother, Gail Maddox, had shared on social media that Jackson had sent urgent messages telling her family that she had been kidnapped and not to call, but to immediately send the police to the homes at Serenity Apartment .

His body was found on the side of the road, covered with a mattress, at 17th Street SW and Laurel Avenue, two and a half miles from the location Maddox had been dispatched to earlier.

Through an investigation, Birmingham police found eight suspects linked to this case.

During a March proceeding, the state presented details of eight videos showing Jackson being forced to perform oral sex at gunpoint, stripped naked, handcuffed, stomped on, slapped and spat on.

All suspects were depicted in the videos.

More than seven months later, new indictments are still pending in this case.

Teja Lewis, 26, Ariana Lashay Robinson, 23, Si’Niya McCall, 24, Giovonnie Clapp, 24, and Blair Green, 26, all had their charges upgraded from felony murder to capital murder on September 13, after the 9th session of the grand jury. The Jefferson County Circuit Court heard evidence presented in the case.

Francis “Ace” Harris, 25, Jeremiah “Kodak” McDowell, 18, and Brandon Pope, 25, were previously charged with capital murder.

Harris, charged with capital murder in a rape/sodomy incident, also allegedly fired the fatal shot at Harris.

If convicted of capital murder, each of the suspects would face at least life in prison or the death penalty.
