ALPENA — A team from Northeast Michigan took second place in the Masters Walleye Circuit World Walleye Championship that brought dozens of anglers to Alpena last week.

Romeo Bourdage of Alpena and Mark Haugerud of Ossineke caught 35 pounds, 9 ounces of fish to earn second place in the Lake Huron tournament, according to the Masters Walleye Circuit online leaderboard.

A second regional team, consisting of Mike Karner of Greenbush and Adam Hume of Oscoda, took fifth place with 22 pounds of fish.

The winning team was from Wisconsin. Wayne Butz and Joseph Sommers caught more than 50 pounds of fish to win the $15,000 first prize.

In an email to The News, Bourdage thanked Mary Beth Stutzman and her team at the Alpena Area Convention and Visitors Bureau for helping bring the three-day tournament to Alpena.
