Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman has been offered a contract worth $64 million, according to team president Cam Neely.

Swayman, a restricted free agent, did not report to training camp pending a new deal.

Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery says goaltender Jonas Korpisalo should open the season for Boston, via Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com.

Swayman played the 2023-24 season on a one-year contract worth $3.475 million following a salary arbitration hearing.

He thrived alongside 2022-23 Vezina Award winner Linus Ullmark. Ullmark and Swayman helped the Bruins average just 2.70 goals against per game last season, the fifth-best mark among all NHL teams.

Ullmark was exchange to the Ottawa Senators in June, seemingly paving the way for Swayman to become the new No. 1 goaltender.

However, the Bruins are approaching their regular season debut on October 8 without a contract agreement with the 25-year-old. If Swayman is not signed by December 1, he will not be eligible to play during the 2024-25 season.

“He chose to wait, and rightly so, until a contract was settled,” Sweeney said on September 18, according to Benjamin. “We intend to continue to negotiate a contract. I’m disappointed that when you put things first as a general manager, you do your best to try to make that happen and I haven’t been able to yet. TO DO. “

“Ultimately, I am optimistic because I think we will find a landing point before December 1,” he added.

A potential $64 million deal would make Swayman the fifth-highest paid goaltender in the NHL in terms of overall contract value, according to Spotrac.

With no deal in place, the Bruins appear set to begin the regular season without the goaltender.
