Two men arrested for handgun violations during traffic stop in Hanover

HANOVER, Md. — Two Virginia men were arrested after police discovered unregistered firearms during a traffic stop in Hanover early Sunday morning. Officers stopped a gray Volkswagen Jetta near Old Telegraph Road and Cabover around 12:30 a.m. on September 29, 2024 for a traffic violation.

During the stop, the driver, identified as Jamari C. Mclaurin, 25, of Newport News, Virginia, was observed attempting to conceal a firearm with his foot. The officers removed him from the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. A second firearm was found in the waistband of the passenger, Malek S. Kinsberry, 26, of Hampton, Virginia, who was also arrested without incident.

The guns, a silver and black Smith & Wesson SD 9 and a black Glock 43X, were unregistered, and both men face charges related to the handgun violations.

  • Virginia father charged with second-degree murder in death of 1-year-old in Front Royal

    FRONT ROYAL, Va. — A 24-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 1-year-old child, Front Royal police said Wednesday.

    At approximately 2:40 p.m. on September 18, 2024, officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of North Royal Avenue after receiving a call regarding a one-year-old child in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, Warren County Fire and Rescue medics were already on scene and preparing to transport the child to Warren Memorial Hospital.

    Despite medical efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Royal Front Police Department have launched an investigation into the incident.

    The child’s father, Nathaniel Lee Edmonds, 24, was located by Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies and questioned. After a thorough investigation and consultation with the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Edmonds was charged with second degree murder under Virginia Code 18.2-32.

    Due to the sensitivity of the matter, no further details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
