Decorah man charged with attempted murder after incident at his Freeport home

DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) – A Decorah man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly violently attacking a woman at a Freeport home last month.

Winneshiek County law enforcement was called to the Freeport home around 11:30 p.m. on September 21.

Two women called law enforcement to say Hunter Youngblood, 22, had assaulted them.

A criminal complaint says the two women were heard screaming during the 911 call as Youngblood forced his way into the home.

Investigators said it all started when Youngblood assaulted one of the women in a vehicle, hitting her multiple times in the face and upper body.

When they arrived at the 170th Avenue home, another woman confronted Youngblood after noticing blood visible on the victim’s dress.

Law enforcement said Youngblood then began strangling the other woman on the couch. Youngblood then allegedly told her he would kill her.

When the first victim left the house to call emergency services, Youngblood chased her. The victim was able to enter the house and lock the front door.

However, Youngblood was able to enter the house through the back door while the women tried to hold it closed.

When he entered the house, he allegedly knocked one of the victims to the ground and hit his head on the floor.

Officers said they arrived a short time later and found Youngblood on the ground with apparent self-inflicted stab wounds to the abdomen.

Investigators said the victims’ statements were corroborated by visible bodily injuries and 911 audio recordings.

Authorities have not said whether additional charges are pending in the case.
