Irish Hamilton fans ‘incredibly disappointed’ as Dublin show canceled at last minute

Fans were left very disappointed following the last minute cancellation of Hamilton at the Bord Gáis Energy Theater tonight, October 1st.

The popular musical, which has been seen by millions around the world, is currently playing at the downtown theater. Thousands of Hamilton fans flock from across the country to see the award-winning show.

Hamilton is the story of America’s founding father, Alexander Hamilton. An immigrant from the West Indies, Hamilton became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the foundation of the America we know today.

However, fans who were due to see tonight’s musical were left bitterly disappointed, as the show was canceled just over an hour before the curtain rose.

Speaking to X/formerly Twitter, a spokesperson for the theater explained that cast illness caused the unfortunate cancellation.

They said: “We regret to inform our customers that tonight’s performance of Hamilton, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m., has been canceled due to illness of the cast.”

“Please note that all customers will receive an automatic refund. We understand the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause, and we want to assure you that every effort has been made to proceed with the performance as planned.

“Unfortunately, this situation is unavoidable and the decision to cancel was taken with great difficulty.”

They continued: “We sincerely apologize and thank our customers for their patience as we try to resolve all questions.

“We will endeavor to find an alternative performance that we can add to the performance schedule before the end of the race, and if we are able to do so we will notify you as soon as possible to allow for a priority reservation.

The spokesperson also confirmed that all reservations will be contacted directly through Ticketmaster or their other point of purchase.

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with one person writing: ‘I’ve been looking forward to seeing this show for over a year now and found out it was canceled when I was sitting outside the theater waiting for the doors to open” was incredibly disappointing.

Another said: “I know these things are inevitable sometimes, but this close to show time is ridiculous. We arrived by car from Cork and only received the notification after landing in Dublin. Surely you must have known that earlier today?

A third person added: “An hour and twenty minutes before the curtains go up is just not enough, sorry.”

Hamilton is two weeks into a nine-week run at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, with shows running regularly between September 17 and November 16, 2024.
