55th Annual Dia del Sol Benefit 2024

Beach and Country Guild will present the 55th annual Dia del Sol 2024 benefit event titled “Fashion Fades But Style Is Forever” on Wednesday, October 23 at 10 a.m. at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad. The annual champagne reception, luncheon, silent and live auction, and fashion show raise funds to support United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of San Diego. This year’s children’s fashion show features The Sasha Project LA (www.thesashaprojectla.org). The guest speaker at the event will be RJ Mitte, best known for his portrayal of Walter “Flynn” White Jr. in the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning drama thriller “Breaking Bad.” Tickets are now on sale. Olivenhain Oktoberfest

An Oktoberfest featuring local beers and German food will be held Oct. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Olivenhain Meeting Hall Grounds, 423 Rancho Santa Fe Road. The band Our Song will play German melodies, European harvest anthems and American pop hits. Put on your dirndl or lederhosen and bring your lawn chairs. The menu includes bratwurst and knackwurst from Tip-Top Meats, hot dogs, potato salad, sauerkraut and strudel. The beer garden and wine shop offers craft beer from local breweries and a variety of wines. Food vouchers cost between $10 and $50. Visit olivenhain.org.

Two-day charity sale at the church

Women United in Faith will host a “huge rummage sale” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 5 at San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas. Items range from clothing, jewelry, books and linens to housewares, toys and food. Visit encinitaschurch.com.

Nature Collective fall family discovery

Festival Nature Collective will host its Fall Family Discovery Festival on Sunday, October 13: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at San Dieguito County Park. The event “provides an opportunity to discover that nature’s creepy crawlies are not as scary as they seem.” Get creative and enter the costume contest with fun themes like Most Creative and Most Eco-Friendly. Community cleans trails near San Elijo Lagoon

Trail cleanups take place regularly at the Cardiff Farmers Market, 3333 Manchester Ave., hosted by the market in conjunction with We Clean Trails. Kayaking event helps lagoon

The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will host its 18th annual kayak cleanup and fundraiser on October 12-13. Participants can kayak on the lagoon normally closed to boating, while helping to preserve the lagoon’s habitat by removing trash. There will be four launches each day, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m. Children aged 6 and over can attend. with an adult. Carlsbad Rotary Hosts 42nd Oktoberfest

The Carlsbad Rotary Clubs’ Oktoberfest fall festival will be held Oct. 5 from noon to 8 p.m. at Carlsbad Strawberry Fields, 1050 Cannon Road. Highlights include German food and music and a Bavarian Biergarten with various beers and wines as well as stein tasting and yodeling competitions. Attractions include a petting zoo, corn maze, kids zone, bounce houses and tractor rides through the marigold field. There will be a German costume contest, a sausage throwing challenge and other German games. The fundraiser is hosted by the Carlsbad Rotary Club and the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club for Carlsbad Charities. There is a $10 entrance fee to enter the Carlsbad Strawberry Fields. “The Power of Pink” Event

The Shoppes of Carlsbad is celebrating the “Power of Pink” to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month and will host the nonprofit Helen Knoll Foundation and partner Grassroots Health for on-site vitamin D3 screening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 5. The first 25 participants will receive a free test kit; others pay $79 (with discount). Free 30-minute Jazzercise “Pink Party” classes take place at 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The San Diego Blood Bank will also host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day in the center’s south parking lot. Domestic garden show at the exhibition center

The 34th annual Fall Home Garden Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. The show features demonstrations, hundreds of home improvement products and services, exhibitors and in-person consultations with home and garden experts. El Camino Quilters Guild

Taste of the ocean

The Taste of Oceanside celebrates its 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 5. Join the event for a day filled with imaginative food, refreshing drinks and live entertainment in the heart of downtown. From 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., participants will explore downtown Oceanside on foot or board the free “Taste Trolley” to taste and sip Oceanside’s exciting food and brew scene. For those 21 and older, the food and beverage combo ticket offers the opportunity to enjoy sips from the community’s vibrant craft breweries and wineries at participating stores and offices. With only 1,000 tickets available and the event sold out three years in a row, advance ticket purchasing is strongly recommended, according to a press release. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated to Lived Experiences. Founded in 2019, Lived Experiences is an Oceanside nonprofit committed to helping underserved families through a variety of programs, including a wellness center, mobile laundry, food pantry and mentoring. Free entry to the museum for children

The San Diego Museum Council operates the Kids Free San Diego program from October 1-31. Children ages 12 and younger can receive free admission with a paying adult to more than 50 museums, aquariums/zoos, gardens, state parks, historic sites and other family attractions throughout San Diego County, ranging from the USS Midway Museum to Fleet Science. Birch Aquarium Center and San Diego Air and Space Museum. Some places are free for the whole family or offer entry as you wish all year round. The Humane Society is hosting a fur ball

The San Diego Humane Society will host its 38th annual Fur Ball from 5 to 10 p.m. on October 5 at its main campus at 5500 Gaines St. The dog-friendly fundraising event supports the nonprofit’s efforts to help more than 40,000 animals this year. The stars of this year’s ball are cats Coco and Amore Schwab. Festivities include a cocktail reception with guests and their pets arriving in their finest outfits and a vegetarian gourmet dinner with fine wine, prepared by celebrity chef Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille, as well as silent and live auctions and a dancing after the party. Celebrating Italian and American Heritage Day

The United Italian American Association is hosting an Italian American Day celebration from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Italy, 1646 Front St. Highlights include dining, dancing , music, a draw and the coronation of the Italian-Americans.
