Postal worker caught shoplifting at Leeds Buc-ee’s, faces multiple theft-related charges

LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) – A U.S. postal worker faces multiple theft charges, including opening mail that didn’t belong to her, after Leeds police say she was caught stealing at Buc-ee’s.

While in custody for shoplifting at the store, police searched 39-year-old Amber Beard’s purse and car and found stolen merchandise, a multitude of checks, credit and debit cards, Alabama driver’s licenses not owned by Beard, and U.S. mail. addressed to several people in the Birmingham area.

While in custody, Beard, a Calera native, told those agents she worked for the United States Postal Service.

Police discovered that while Beard was employed as a postal worker, she opened mail that was not addressed to her, removed items such as checks, debit and credit cards, and gift cards, and used fraudulently.

Beard was charged with trafficking in stolen identities, five counts of unlawful possession of a credit/debit card, and 4th degree theft of property.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending as more victims are identified.

Beard was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on $80,500 bail.
