Fond du Lac responds to the rise in school threats: Understanding the consequences

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – Fond du Lac police are responding to recent threats at schools with a strong message.

The Fond du Lac school board and the police team up. They say they have seen an increase in threats on social media related to school violence in recent weeks. This has impacted learning in schools and disrupted community resources.

The district and police say safety is the priority, not to mention the well-being of every student and staff member.

Police Chief Aaron Goldstein posted a message on Facebook.

“These situations impact your family, friends, school staff, police officers, community members and many others. They are sowing worry and fear in our schools, in the Fond du Lac community. Threatening behavior, especially at school, is never appropriate. We encourage you to seek support to help you overcome any challenges you are experiencing.

Mental health was part of the message.

The police chief also reiterates that every threat is taken seriously and every threat is investigated. The school district and police say they are grateful the threats are unfounded.

Authorities say anyone who makes threats faces serious academic and legal consequences.

They then thank the community for its continued commitment to school safety.

What is highlighted in the message is “See something, say something”. This is something we all, including children, should remember to report rather than repost when you see something suspicious online or elsewhere.

The district and police say that together we can foster an environment where everyone feels safe and supported.
