Postal worker caught shoplifting at Leeds Buc-ee’s, facing multiple theft-related charges

LEEDS, Ala. (WBRC) – A United States postal worker is facing multiple theft charges, including opening mail that didn’t belong to her, after police in Leeds say she was caught stealing at Buc-ee’s.

While in custody for shoplifting at the store, police searched 39-year-old Amber Beard’s purse and car and found stolen merchandise, a multitude of checks, credit and debit cards, and Alabama drivers licenses not belonging to Beard, as well as US mail addressed to several people in the Birmingham area.

While in custody, Beard, who is from Calera, told those officers she worked for the United States Postal Service.

Police found that while Beard was employed as a postal worker, she opened mail not addressed to her, removed items like checks, debit and credit cards, and gift cards, and fraudulently used them.

Beard has been charged with Trafficking in Stolen Identities, five counts of Illegal Possession of a Credit/Debit Card, and Theft of Property 4th Degree.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending as more victims are identified.

Beard was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on an $80,500 bond.
