On October 1, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Abdur Rouf, in connection with the murder of BNP activist Sujan Malitha, 45, in 2019 from Mirpur in Dhaka.

The next morning, he was handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch.

Police said that five years after Sujon Malitha’s murder, a complaint was filed on September 29 by a man named Sujon Hossain, who claimed to be a party member.

In this case, Rouf was named as the 8th accused.

According to the brief, Sujon returned home after attending a BNP program on the night of September 13, 2019. Around 12:20 a.m., the accused forcibly took him to his house. Later, around 1:30 a.m., he was shot dead near the eastern bank of the Molla Teghoria canal in Kushtia.

Plaintiff Sujon also mentioned that the defendants had intimidated and threatened them, preventing the filing of the case for the past five years.

Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Khairuzzaman told TBS: “We will proceed with the court hearing once we receive the necessary orders. No remand application has been submitted for the moment.”

Meanwhile, Abdur Rouf’s wife Jannatun Nahar claimed that her husband was falsely implicated in the matter.

“This is a fabricated case to frame him,” she said.
