Deshaun Watson offers encouraging words for struggling Browns teammate

Despite the fact that Watson was later captured supporting his teammate, he made sure to clarify the situation even further on Wednesday and complimented one of his main protectors.

“Dawand is a very talented young tackle. And he shows a lot of emotion, he has a lot of passion for the game, he wants to be the best and we know that,” Watson said. “And we hold every person on the field to high standards and he knows that and I just wanted to make sure he knew that as the leader of this offense and one of the leaders of his team, we I love him.”

This tough love approach is something quite common in the NFL. Teams often equate the dynamic of the locker room to that of a family. What people saw Sunday between Watson and Jones was just that.

“It’s what family does,” Watson said. “We can go back and forth, but at the end of the day we talk about it and we love each other and we move on and that’s part of the game. It’s part of the system. I think the media blows it. of proportion, but it was nothing serious. That’s why no one panicked. Earlier in the week, Veterans Safety Rodney McLeod said during a radio appearance that good teams are run by the coaches but great teams are run by the players. As team captain and quarterback, Watson feels he owes it to his Browns teammates to hold them accountable when things don’t go so well.

That doesn’t mean he won’t be the first to get them back and restore their confidence either. Football is considered the ultimate team sport, so it’s not lost on Watson that his success depends on the success of the guys around him. Especially someone like Jones, who is responsible for deterring some of the game’s most talented players from facing him.

“I think that’s very important as a quarterback, not just for him but for everyone to know that no matter if someone makes a bad play, or goes the wrong way or something like that, I’m not going to lose faith,” Watson added. “I’m not one of those guys. I’m going to need every one of those guys on the field for me to be productive and successful as well. So we know the talent, those guys are in that locker room to a reason because we believe in them and we believe that each of these guys can help us win.
