Wednesday night incident ends with arrest in west Midland

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A Midland man was arrested Wednesday after investigators say he allegedly assaulted a woman and then threatened to harm himself and responding police officers amid a dead end.

According to a press release, around 8:40 p.m. on October 2, officers responded to a disturbance with weapons in the 4300 block of Storey Avenue. At the scene, officers found an injured woman who reported being strangled and assaulted by a family member. The woman was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

“While officers were responding, the suspect made threats of harm to himself and responding officers,” MPD said.

As a result of these threats, more MPD members responded to the scene, including a negotiator, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Corey Ritchie, 54, was booked into the Midland County Detention Center on charges of assault, domestic violence preventing breathing. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the victim’s medical evaluation. A photo of Ritchie was not immediately available.
