Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland: “The challenge, the underdog story, the people that don’t think you can – that’s something that always keeps this club coming back.

“If you want to write us off, go for it. We’ll relish the challenge – that’s something we’ve done in the European games and is something we’ll continue to do.

“We had a good away win last week and a win at the weekend, so confidence is high. If we can come away with something tomorrow night, we’re in a great place, but we’re looking to win the game.”

Lyon head coach Pierre Sage: “We are playing against a historic club, in a historic stadium, and we need to put in a historic performance.

“This is what football is all about. It’s the reason why we all fall in love with the game when we’re younger, because we want to play in these big, historic stadiums. We want to have those unforgettable nights.

“We need to find a bit more adaptability, a bit more flexibility in our playing styles for the challenges we face that are different in Europe compared to Ligue 1.

“We prepared for that over the summer, we intentionally played teams from different countries so that we could experience different playing styles, different cultures.”
