Spirit Halloween Returns With ‘Saturday Night Live’ Custom Costume Design After Skit: ’50 Year Irrelevant Show’

Spirit Halloween Returns With ‘Saturday Night Live’ Custom Costume Design After Skit: ’50 Year Irrelevant Show’

(Gray News) – Spirit Halloween had some words – and a costume design – for “Saturday Night Live” after the iconic holiday store was spoofed in a skit during last week’s episode.

In the “SNL” sketch, the show’s cast plays Spirit Halloween spokespeople and employees in a commercial detailing the tragedy of dead and dying towns, similar in tone to a sponsored SPCA commercial by Sarah McLachlan featuring sad looking dogs and cats.

However, the tone changes to a more optimistic one when Spirit Halloween shows up in its rented trucks and vans to open a fancy costume store where the last independent grocery store or auto shop in town was.

“And because of us, what was once a boarded-up car park where a murder happened has once again become a thriving business where a murder happened,” the “SNL” skit proclaims.

The joke plays on a long-running Internet meme in which Spirit Halloween soon takes over any building formerly occupied by a business or group of people. The meme mocked everything from the depiction of Trump Tower covered in a Spirit Halloween banner to the U.S. Capitol ahead of a possible government shutdown.

“We’re here to provide vulnerable communities with what they need most: wigs that cause rash, single-use fog machines, and costumes of famous people modified enough to avoid a lawsuit,” the sketch continues.

“Halloween spirit. When you need us, we will be there. For six weeks,” the sketch continues. “Because on November 1, we’re gone and all this trash will be in a dumpster.”

Spirit Halloween decided not to stay quiet long after the roast and followed up the “SNL” skit video with a joke of its own.

In an X-post responding to the “SNL” sketch, he posted a photo of a new costume titled “50 Year Irrelevant Show.”

The costume packaging says “SNL 50 The Anniversary Season” and says it includes:

  • Dated references
  • Unknown actors
  • Decrease in grades

“We’re good at raising the dead,” the company posted alongside the image, making sure to tag the “SNL” X account.

The comedy show attracted 5.3 million live viewers for its 50th season premiere this weekend, marking its best opening since 2020, according to the Associated Press.

The outlet appeared to say the jokes were all very funny in response to a comment received.

“Scary laughs are the best,” the response read. “I’m glad to hear it brought some joy to Halloween!” Let’s continue the fun throughout the season! »
