Michigan coffee company celebrates blueberries, cherries with Bluey-inspired roasts

LAPEER, MI — Attention parents, your favorite Australian cartoon dogs have inspired two of Michigan’s newest — and tastiest — coffee roasts.

The Doghouse Coffee, which is centrally located in downtown Lapeer at 454 W. Nepessing St., has 16 different roasts ranging from breakfast blends to medium and dark roasts and numerous flavored roasts to kickstart your day.

But the most recent roasts celebrate two of Michigan’s favorite natural sweets — cherries and blueberries.

The chocolate cherry coffee and blueberry cinnamon crumble coffee are now available for sale by the bag in person and online, and they don’t disappoint, said Don Wingard, co-owner of Doghouse Coffee.

“Both of them are great coffees, but I will tell you that if you have a gathering at your house, you want to brew a pot of this before the guests walk in because this smell in your house, they probably will never leave,” Wingard said. “With the holidays coming up, we think this will fit in well. These are the perfect fall and winter roasts with Thanksgiving and Christmas ahead.”

Both flavored coffees have a Columbian medium roast.

And with that, the inspiration of these flavors was paired with popular children’s television show Bluey.

The artwork for both bag features detailed drawings of, you guessed it, red and blue heels.

Each 12-ounce bag costs $15 and can be purchased both in person or online here.

“Who doesn’t love a heeler?” quipped Wingard, who was excited to share the release of these new flavor profiles. “With Bluey having a red heeler and a blue heeler, it was a no brainer, especially for parents who need coffee. It’s a cool concept and a cool label.”

For customers visiting the shop in person, they are encouraged to bring their fur babies inside to enjoy dog toys and treats while getting their caffeine fix.

“Dogs are a big passion of ours. Both of our dogs are rescues and both were severely abused when we got them. As far as charity goes, our contributions will always be animal related — no-kill shelters, foster homes, just as many dogs as we can save,” co-owner Ulyana Wingard said in a previous article. “They don’t have a voice, and they don’t really have much in their lives.

“Some of them spend years and years in shelters. It’s going to take a village, and it’s going to take a lot of people, but we will make a change.”

Doghouse Coffee stands by that motto to aid canines in need, recently partnering up with Detroit Pit Crew on a third roast that will directly benefit the nonprofit organization.

The Detroit Pit Crew Roast is a smooth, balanced medium roast crafted from the finest Guatemalan and Costa Rican beans.

This coffee delivers rich, bold flavors with just the right amount of sweetness and a clean finish, perfect for your everyday brew.

For every bag that’s sold, $3 goes directly to Detroit Pit Crew, which will help the organization in its mission to rescue stray and injured dogs in Detroit.

That means each cup you enjoy helps provide care and second chances to dogs in need.
