Comic Sans Ranch Panel From Silent Hill 2 HD Collection Is In The Remake…But Not In The Way You Might Think

A nod to the disastrous HD Collection remake of Silent Hill 2 is hidden in Silent Hill 2 Remake: the infamous Silent Hill Ranch sign.

Along with Maria’s nightmarish orthodontic rearrangement, one of the most egregious things about the 2012 version for some was the tragically comic Silent Hill Ranch panel, written in Comic Sans.

No one is really sure if this is an intentional change or just leftover placeholder text, but it has become emblematic of the HD Collection’s broader quality and performance issues.

While Bloober Team fixed many of these issues with its exceptional remake, it seems the team made a point of honoring the game’s legacy in several ways… including keeping that silly sign in the new game.

It will take a bit of work to see it though:

“So if you walk through the ranch at the start of the Silent Hill 2 remake, you can find the Comic Sans font hidden inside. GOTY,” GmanLives posted on X/Twitter.

“I’m waiting for someone to make a mod that replaces the Silent Hill Ranch sign with the Comic Sans version,” one commenter joked.

Yesterday, Wikipedia had to lock the Silent Hill 2 Remake page after repeated acts of vandalism from editors who refused to accept the critically acclaimed remake of Konami’s flagship horror game last week.

Outright lies surrounding the game’s reception and metacritic score – including an edit stating that the game had “received the worst reviews imaginable” – mean the page has now been placed in a semi-protected state to prevent Unregistered users make wild and unsubstantiated claims.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played Silent Hill 2 before. It doesn’t matter if you have either. Silent Hill 2 Remake’s intoxicating blend of old and new delivers the best horror I’ve ever played. “I’ve been playing it for years, and I suspect this will be true even for those meeting James for the first time,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Silent Hill 2 Remake review, giving it 5 out of 5 stars.

Silent Hill 2 Remake releases on PC and PS5 tomorrow, Tuesday October 8.
