Chicago White Sox continue to covet Texas Rangers Associate Manager Will Venable

Bruce Bochy’s Texas Rangers coaching staffs have been an attractive destination for MLB teams with roles to fill.

Associate manager Will Venables is being pursued by the Chicago White Sox, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The Sox are looking for a manager after losing 121 games in 2024.

Venable, who turns 42 on Tuesday, has done just that been with the Rangers the past two seasons and was Bochy’s second-in-command. Over the past two years, Venables has taken over managerial duties whenever Bochy has been ejected from a match.

“There is no word yet that it is ready or that he will definitely accept it if it is offered,” Heyman reported on social media on Sunday evening.

Venables previously ran for other jobs, including turned down an offer to interview for the New York Mets manager’s job during the Rangers’ 2023 postseason run.

Venables isn’t the only Rangers coach the White Sox have expressed interest in. Bench coach and offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker was a candidate but the This is reported by the Dallas Morning News last week that he will remain with Texas.

Rangers hitting coach Tim Hyer left last week for the same job with the Atlanta Braves.

Venables, who has a great reputation in the league and in the Rangers clubhouse, is seen as the next Rangers manager. Bochy, 69, is about to start the third and final year of his current contract with the club. Bochy has made it clear that he doesn’t expect to continue working well into his 70s.
