Today marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most iconic, star-studded and influential films of all time – and the cast has barely aged a day in that time.

pulp Fiction was released on October 14, 1994, with Uma Thurman, Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Christopher Walken and Tim Roth lighting up the screen in director Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece.

The dark, violent and ridiculously quotable film depicts a series of incidents that intertwine the lives of two Los Angeles hitmen, a gangster’s wife, a boxer and two petty criminals.

It received seven Oscar nominations in total, with the filmmaker taking home the trophy for best original screenplay, while Uma, John and Samuel received acting nominations – the latter previously insisted he ‘should have won’ the trophy for best supporting actor, after losing. for Martin Landau by Ed Wood.

Despite commanding one of the most crowded casts in film history, Quentin previously shared that he actually dropped another big name from the original lineup.

He shared that Johnny Depp was in the running for Pumpkin, despite the role being written specifically for Tim Roth.

During an appearance on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast, he explained: “On the internet there’s something going around about my Pulp Fiction cast wish list.

‘I didn’t know exactly who I wanted to play this or that role, so I wrote a giant list with lots of names.

‘I wanted everyone to be pre-approved and I didn’t know if it was going to work out or if I would vibe with the person or if they would do a good job. I just wanted them to be approved.

The Django Unchained director argued that having the Pirates of the Caribbean actor play Pumpkin wouldn’t add “much to the box office” and refused to change his two main preferences for the iconic character in the form of Tim and Christian Slater.

He said he would be happy if Johnny came on board in case Tim and Christian backed out.

Detailing the conversation with studio bosses, he told them: ‘Do you think that Johnny Depp playing the role of Pumpkin in this film, which is the opening scene and the closing scene, do you think that will add a lot to the box office? ? Him playing this role?

Earlier this year, the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Classic Film Festival celebrated Pulp Fiction ahead of its milestone day.

Quentin was honored at the event and key members of the cast and crew came together to honor the film.

However, Bruce – who starred as boxer and boxer Butch Coolidge – was noticeably absent from the event.

The actor retired in recent years after suffering from frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

Instead, his wife, Emma Hemming Willis, and daughter Tallulah attended on his behalf.

The reunion sent many into meltdown as fans commented that the stars looked like “family” as they hugged each other warmly and kissed each other on the cheeks during the party.

Even though Pulp Fiction debuted three decades ago, they were still instantly recognizable as their characters.
