One person is seriously injured after being rescued from a Toronto apartment building fire

One person was rushed to hospital Wednesday morning after being pulled from a burning home on Toronto’s east side.

The fire broke out shortly after 9 a.m. in a three-story apartment building on Kenilworth Avenue, near Queen Street and Woodbine Avenue.

Fire officials say the initial call was for a fire in a third-floor unit and heavy smoke was visible upon arrival.

One person was ultimately rescued by firefighters and taken to a local hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition, paramedics said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
