Strictly Come Dancing star announces shock split from wife

Strictly Come Dancing star Ore Oduba has announced that he and his wife Portia have ended their nine-year marriage.

On Thursday, the presenter confirmed the ‘difficult’ news in an Instagram post where he revealed that they split earlier this year.

The couple have two children, Roman, six, and Genie, three.

In his statement, Ore wrote: ‘Hello everyone. Portia and I announced that we separated earlier this year. We are so grateful for all the love you have shared with us over the years.

‘And we want to thank you in advance for respecting our privacy as we navigated this difficult transition. We will not make any further comments. Be kind, always.

The couple married in 2015, just five years after meeting at Loughborough University in 2010.

The musical theater star, who won Strictly glitterball in 2016, previously admitted she couldn’t stop crying on her wedding day.

He told The Mirror at the time: ‘On my wedding day I cried from 11am until 2am that night.

“There’s a picture of me crying, my best men laughing and Portia bursting into laughter next to me – I’m the only one crying.”

In 2021, Ore opened up about his “challenging” year where he and Portia will have to “remember that we love each other.”

He said: ‘My wife and I will be together ten years next month and we have never done anything more challenging than we have done in the last 12 months. There were tears, tantrums.

‘Roman has improved our world more than we could have dreamed, but there are times when we have to remember that we love each other and that’s why he’s here. He has been our guardian angel in lockdown, but he has also been the cause of some small fights.

‘It’s just finding that time for each other. Every family is different. Communication is the key. We don’t go to bed arguing.

The Strictly star continued: ‘I’m someone who likes routine. When we didn’t have that, I found it very difficult to get any kind of structure.

“Spending more time with each other has given us more appreciation for what the other person does.”
