Billy Corgan’s mother-in-law was reportedly injured after a car crashed into his tea shop in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill.Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan’s mother-in-law was reportedly injured after a car crashed into the tea shop he owns in a northern suburb. Highland Park on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the city of Highland Park, crews responded to the single-vehicle crash at Madame ZuZu’s, located at 1876 First Street, around 11:41 a.m.

Social media photos of the incident showed a broken window and part of a red Fiat stopped inside the business.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle and a patron of the tea shop were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In a statement released on his verified Instagram accountCorgan’s wife said her mother Jenny was injured in the crash.

“This afternoon at Madame Zuzu’s, a car (under circumstances still under investigation) drove over the curb and into Madame Zuzu’s window, crashing through the window and seriously injuring one person: my mother, Jenny; who spent the day with my mother was having lunch. son Augustus,” Chloe Mendel Corgan said in the post.

“Luckily he was able to jump out of the way and was not injured,” the statement said.

Mendel Corgan then thanked first responders for their help and said the business would be closed until further notice.

The city asked people to avoid the area near the tea shop, including First Street between Central Avenue and Elm Place.

City officials said a preliminary investigation determined the crash was an accident, but they provided no further details.
