German Flats, NY – Two people were arrested and charged Friday for scamming a Herkimer County man and telling him he had several fraudulent Geek Squad accounts, troopers said.

Chengfeng Li, 53, of Oakland Gardens and Tao Liu, 53, of New York City, were charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny, said Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a state police spokesperson.

A 61-year-old man living in German apartments reported to state police that he had lost $20,000 in an “elaborate scam,” Jiron said. The victim reported receiving a billing email for $349.99 for a Geek Squad subscription, she said.
