Manchester United will be without a number of key players when they return to Premier League action against Brentford this afternoon.

Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo withdrew from international duty last week, returning to Manchester ahead of schedule for assessment.

While Garnacho and Amad have trained this week, Mainoo faces ‘a few weeks’ away, which is a huge blow to Erik ten Hag’s first-team plans.

There are also major concerns in defense. Harry Maguire also joined the injured list due to a knee problem he suffered in the goalless draw against Aston Villa last time out. Like Mainoo, he is expected to be out until early November.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are not yet available for selection, but there was good news on Noussair Mazraoui, who returned to training ahead of schedule this week after undergoing a minor heart procedure.

There were also concerns on the pitch for Manuel Ugarte, who was forced to sit out Uruguay’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

The midfielder reportedly asked to be replaced after complaining of pain in his right thigh.

Ugarte, who was among the substitutes in the last two games against Porto and Aston Villa, is fit and should be part of the squad.
