Drinking water notice issued for Thurston County Water System after sample showed high nitrate levels

THURSTON COUNTY, Nebraska (KTIV) – A water warning was issued for some people in Thurston County, Nebraska Thursday evening.

A sample collected last week showed nitrates higher than the maximum containment level in the village of Pender’s water system.

A notice was also issued for Thurston Rural Water System customers. This notice states that adults and children over six months old can drink tap water. However, a spokesperson for Papio Missouri River Natural Resources says no one should drink tap water until further notice. The spokesperson also warned that boiling water will not remove the nitrates.

Those who need water can get it at the Village of Pender office at 614 Main Street.
