Bloober wants to show what they can do on their own and feels they’ve found their niche in horror

Earlier this month, developer Bloober Team released the remake of Silent Hill 2, which is probably the studio’s highest-profile release, and also its highest-rated. However, the studio isn’t done yet, as it also recently revealed “Cronos: The New Dawn,” which is an entirely new game based on its own IP.

Speaking in an interview, studio director Wojciech Piejko mentioned how the studio felt the pressure when it was revealed that Bloober was the studio in charge of reimagining Silent Hill 2, and how the negative comments didn’t go unnoticed. Now that that’s out of the way, the studio is now looking to show players what they can do with their own ideas.

“It was difficult a few years before (Silent Hill 2) came out. They did it. We did it. Bloober did it. And now there is a very good atmosphere inside (the studio). We want to show what we can do alone, how we can evolve our ideas.”

In the same chat, producer Jacek Zieba mentions how Bloober wants to be known as a “horror company” and thinks it has found its niche in horror video games.

“We want to be a horror company. We want to find our niche and we think we found it, so now let’s evolve with it. (…) And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like in Layers of Fear (2016), people at the studio said, ‘Okay, we’ve made some shitty games before, but we (can) evolve .”

Based on what’s been shown for Cronos: The New Dawn, it looks like Bloober is on the right track. Will it be as good as Silent Hill 2? We can’t say for sure, but this time the expectations are much, much higher, and we here at MP1st hope the studio can deliver on that when the game launches next year.

If you haven’t played Silent Hill 2 yet, read our review here, where we state: “Bloober Team manages to make this horror classic better in every way and, in turn, become a classic in its own right. Hopefully, this very promising start means we will see Bloober Team continue to remake the rest of the games in the series in the coming years.”
