‘Cocktail magic comes to life’

Four hotspots in Manhattan were ranked among the 50 best bars in the world, London and Singapore are the most mentioned gin mills.

Double Chicken Please on the Lower East Side ranked No. 14 on the annual World’s 50 Best Bars list; Overstory in the Financial District was close behind at 15th; Martiny’s in Union Square came in 24th; and Superbueno in the East Village was 27th.

This year marked the third time Double Chicken Please earned a spot on the list and the first time Martiny’s, opening in 2022, and Superbueno, opening in 2023, participated in the competition.

“Another year to be thankful for, thank you for all the love and support,” Double Chicken Please, known for cocktails like Cold Pizza ($21) and Thai Curry ($22), posted on Instagram.

It charted at number 2 in North America; last year it was number 1 on the continent.

Also known for its fried chicken sandwiches, the Lower East Side spot has a casual walk-in front room and a reservation-only back room that opens at midnight six days in advance.

“True to its name, Double Chicken Please offers a double dose of innovative concepts,” the judges wrote, adding that in the back room the “cocktail wizardry comes to life.”

In addition to what the 50 Best panel described as “a cocktail menu grounded in earthy, spicy flavors,” the 24-seat bar at Overstory, located on the 64th floor of an Art Deco skyscraper on Pine Street, is known for its surrounding views of the New York City skyline.

“This achievement is the result of the tireless work of the entire Overstory team,” the group wrote on Instagram.

“Old New York luxury marries Japanese precision and technology Martiny’s” reads the submission for the Union Square spot.

The judges noted the “unparalleled attention to detail,” including hot towels and sliced ​​ice at the three-story establishment, which is located in a renovated 1800s carriage house on East 17th Street. Bar snacks were created by Wayne Cheng of Eleven Madison Park and Masa.

“If you like martinis, this is your home,” read one review. “Yes, the drinks will be expensive because it’s NYC.”

“Thank you to 50 Best Bars for recognizing our team’s dedication to creating delicious festive experiences rooted in Mexican hospitality,” the 1st Avenue spot, which also received this year’s London Essence Best New Opening Award, shared on Instagram.

No. 1 on the list, sponsored by Perrier, was Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City.
