Airbnb host demands $3,000 from guest for spilling sauce on couch, netizens respond

Airbnb host demands ,000 from guest for spilling sauce on couch, netizens respond

A group of friends who gathered to honor their late friend at an AirBnB faced an absurd experience. According to a Reddit post, the host asked a person to pay the exorbitant $3,000 bill after he accidentally spilled sauce on the couch.

The user could never imagine that such a small incident would cause him such an impressive amount.

To get out of the complicated situation, the user turned to Reddit in search of an alternative solution to fix it.

He wrote on the social media platform: “I recently stayed in an Airbnb with some friends as an unofficial memorial for a deceased friend. We had more guests there than authorized, but nothing wild. Unfortunately, I spilled some sauce on one of the sofas. I offered to pay the host for his time and efforts to clean it. I didn’t think much more would come of it,” adding “the stains can be removed.”

The user continued: “She asked me to send $1,100 for a new couch outside of the app, saying the stain couldn’t be removed and the fabric was discontinued by the manufacturer. She said she didn’t want to ‘ruin my rating’ with an AirBnb damage claim.” Supposedly, the sofa originally cost $2,500.

He further described receiving multiple texts and calls from the host for more than two weeks demanding that the money be paid before the next guests arrived to stay, which would happen over the next three days.

“I responded and told her I would prefer to deal with it through the app and make an official damage claim. She said, ‘Ah, ok, sorry, we couldn’t resolve the issue,’” the user said.

The next thing the user knows, the host submitted a damage claim on the AirBnB app, where the lady demanded $3,000 and both couches were replaced as “they were a matching set.”

“Does anyone have experience with AirBnB damage claims? I’m sure I won’t be responsible for paying for the two couches, but I’m panicking! Please help.”

Internet users try to help the user

Many internet users offered advice to the struggling user. One user wrote: “Airbnb usually sides with guests in these situations and just asks them to pay, they will never force them. The host definitely knows this.”

A second user advised: “Report her to Airbnb stating that she communicated outside of the app asking for money. This will cause her account to be reviewed and they may close her for a few days or so. Send screenshots to Airbnb of the messages outside the application.”

A third user wrote: “Contact AirBnB about this, tell them they contacted you outside of service to ask for money and now they are constantly harassing you for money.
