Finnish engineering and manufacturing company Valmet has announced the loss of 112 jobs following the conclusion of restructuring negotiations.

When Valmet announced the start of negotiations with staff representatives in early September, it said around 200 jobs were at stake.

In a press release, the company stated that in addition to the layoffs, the restructuring will involve temporary layoffs, termination of some fixed-term contracts, as well as the transfer of several employees internally to other functions.

“The Paper and Paper business unit will implement temporary layoffs lasting up to 90 days during the first half of 2025”, the statement said, adding that the changes are necessary to improve the “profitability and competitiveness of business operations”.

Valmet employs approximately 6,600 people in Finland and more than 19,000 people worldwide.
