CLEMSON, SC — Dr. Nicki Wise is associate dean for academic affairs. Wise, a South Carolina native, brings a variety of clinical and educational experiences to the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). After earning her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from the USDA Agricultural Research Service, she joined the faculty at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 in as an associate professor in the department of large animal medicine and surgery. She was promoted to professor in 2019 and was later appointed to the position of associate dean of fourth-year clinical education. While there are many priorities as the College continues to grow, Wise says she remains focused on the students.

“I am excited to admit our first class and help them achieve their goals. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a DVM student become a four-year veterinarian, ready to enter our profession and help animals (and humans) in their communities.

Wise grew up in Walterboro, South Carolina, and she says she aspires to return to the Palmetto State to help shape the future of veterinary medicine. She believes that collaboration and cooperation will be the keys to the college’s success.

“My goal before our students arrive is to help create a program and community focused on the well-being and success of our students, faculty and staff. The Clemson CVM is committed to creating the next generation of veterinarians in this state, and we plan to fulfill that mission while growing a program that embodies the values of the Clemson family.

CVM will be South Carolina’s premier college of veterinary medicine and will play a crucial role in addressing the shortage of small and large animal veterinarians in the state and nation. The College will impact communities near and far, and CVM students will be at the forefront of filling these critical roles in veterinary medicine.

“I am dedicated to the success of our students and the college. And I know the enormous impact we have on the future of this state, one student at a time.

Wise is married to CVM faculty member Dr. Brian Butler. They have two daughters, ages 5 and 7, and two dogs, a coonhound and a Missouri brown dog!
