5 defensive free agents the Miami Dolphins should still consider

It’s been a productive offseason for general manager Chris Grier and the Miami Dolphins. It’s just a matter of time to see if the fruits of their labor will bear fruit. This is a team that has reached the playoffs two years in a row under head coach Mike McDaniel. This is something that the franchise has not done in its five years of existence, from 1997 to 2001.

One of the club’s problems in recent seasons has been their disappearances at the end of the campaign. Thanks mainly to a slew of quarterback changes, the Dolphins have limped all the way in 2022. Last season, McDaniel’s team owned a 9-3 record with five games remaining. There were home losses to the Titans and Bills, the latter with the AFC East title on the line. There was also an embarrassing 56-19 loss at Baltimore in Week 17.

Miami looked lifeless in cold Arrowhead Stadium during the Wild Card Round. A 26-7 loss means the Finns have yet to win a playoff game since 2000.

Let’s return to these slumps in the final stages of a season. Pass rushing injuries were a big factor last year, and Grier talked about it in free agency and during April’s draft. Here again, the defense in general was not up to par. Experienced leadership could certainly pay off in the playoffs if Miami can get back there.

Here are five defensive veterans who still haven’t been picked up by other teams. Some or all of these performers could greatly help new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
