IMD Warning: Heavy rains in TN till November 8; Rameswaram is facing waterlogging

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu: Several areas in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu faced waterlogging on Sunday due to heavy rains that hit the region. The municipal corporation is actively working to remove stagnant water from low-lying areas affected by the downpour.

Thitagudi, Pradyantheru and Mettutheru districts experienced significant waterlogging, disrupting local traffic and causing inconvenience to residents.

Rameswaram Municipal Chairman KE Nazarkhan stated that the local government is implementing multiple measures to prevent future water accumulation irrespective of rainfall. This includes improving drainage systems and ensuring timely removal of water from affected areas. “Due to rain in the morning, rainwater accumulated in some low-lying areas. The stagnant rainwater was immediately drained by municipal workers,” he told ANI. “Measures will be taken in wartime so that water does not stagnate anywhere, no matter how heavy the rain,” he added.

The heavy rainfall was attributed to a deep circulation over the Gulf of Mannar, which affected southern Tamil Nadu and the surrounding region.

The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall from November 2 to 8, affecting several states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe on November 1 and a slight decline thereafter. Gradual decline in minimum and maximum temperatures over north and eastern India by 2-3 between November 3 and 7” , the warning said.

“We have received reports of heavy rainfall, mainly from the South Peninsula of India and Tamil Nadu. However, there have been no reports of heavy rainfall from the rest of the country. Heavy rains are likely to occur in Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the next two to three days. , but most parts of the country will remain clear,” said IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy.

IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy noted that temperatures in northwest and eastern India are expected to gradually drop by 2-3°C between November 3 and 7, which could further affect weather conditions in the area. “Talking about temperature, the minimum temperature has dropped by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the Doab region in the last 24 hours. The general temperature in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and South Doab is 2 to 4 degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures are expected. From tomorrow morning, the temperature is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees,” she said.
