QCAD is working on an ongoing project with WIU called SafeConnect. The goal of this project is to recognize LGBTQIA+ owned, operated, employing or serving businesses in the Quad Cities region to create a network of supportive and safe spaces for customers.

“As Quad Citians Affirming Diversity (QCAD) that operates out of the WIU-QC campus, we deeply appreciate the university’s support in providing space for our wide range of events and activities,” said Shelbee Bradley, WIU Student Services Specialist. “We also recognize the importance of the LGBTQ+ young people we work with in the CBD to connect with higher education spaces.

“We know WIU is safe and inclusive, so we are happy to highlight that for our community. By having a presence at WIU-QC, it shows current and future LGBTQ+ students as well as faculty and staff that WIU-QC is a welcoming and inclusive community for those who come to campus. We want to be able to foster inclusion within the community by providing valuable education and resources,” she said. “Our new project, QCAD SafeConnect, actively promotes gay-friendly businesses and advances our mission to expand our support network and further community development in the Quad Cities.”
