Hotspots persisted for hours after massive Lansing wildfire: County issues burn ban as investigation begins

After a grueling seven-hour battle, firefighters from across Tompkins County contain a large brush fire that scorched 8-10 acres between East Shore Drive and Cayuga Heights Road in Lansing.

The fire, which started Friday evening, threatened nearby homes but was eventually brought under control without causing damage to homes, thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple fire departments.

In response to the dry conditions that fueled the fire, Tompkins County declared a 30-day burn ban and declared a state of emergency Saturday morning.

Ithaca College also canceled a planned fireworks show for Family Weekend, citing safety concerns due to the increased fire risk.
