Staff at the Stourbridge pub provided first aid to men injured in serious violence in the city center

Violence erupted near The Stourbridge Lion, on the city’s High Street, in the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday, West Midlands Police confirmed that officers were called to reports of a “disorder involving a group” shortly before 2am.

Upon arrival, they found two men with head and leg injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A spokesperson for The Stourbridge Lion said although the incident did not occur on site, staff helped provide first aid to those injured.

A statement said: “The safety and well-being of our employees and customers is extremely important to us.

“There is a named member of staff at each facility with first aid training and we work closely with our concierge teams to ensure the highest level of safety for our customers.

“Although the attack did not occur at the scene, our team provided first aid to the injured and contacted emergency services. We will continue to support any further investigations into this incident.”

Ambulance crews were called to the incident shortly after 2am and treated two men for their injuries.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to The Stourbridge Lion, on High Street, Stourbridge at 2.02am on Sunday.

“An ambulance, a paramedic and a trauma team from MERIT attended the scene. Crews arrived and found two injured men.

“They both received treatment at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.”

A 33-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident and was later released on bail while investigations continue, a police spokesperson said.
