Freeze warning for Oregon for Thursday

Freeze warning for Oregon for Thursday

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, effective for the North Oregon Coast Range Lowlands, the North Oregon Coast Range and the Upper Hood River Valley between midnight and 8 a.m. Thursday.

The Weather Service comments: “Take steps now to protect sensitive outdoor plants from the cold. Consider temporarily bringing outdoor potted plants indoors if they are sensitive to cold temperatures. You may want to temporarily cover sensitive plants with a light cotton fabric (e.g. sheets, thin blankets). ), as this helps retain heat and provide frost protection for your plants.”

Frost warning – that’s what it means

Frost warnings are issued from May to October (but can be extended if necessary) when temperatures, winds and sky cover favor frost development. This is most likely when the temperature is 36 degrees or less. In some cases, the frost is severe enough to end the growing season and is then referred to as a “killing frost.”

According to the weather service, if your area is under a frost warning, cover sensitive plants before the sun goes down to retain heat near the plants, or bring plants indoors overnight if possible.
