Burbage Common Open Day canceled

Due to heavy rains in recent weeks, the ground is too waterlogged for the event.

Due to the latest weather conditions, the borough council has decided to cancel the Burbage Common Open Day this Sunday (May 19).

Paul Scragg, senior green space manager at the borough council, said: “The green space team apologizes for the late cancellation, this is a difficult decision to make, particularly for stall holders and everyone who was looking forward to attending the event. We still hope to be able to revamp it later in the year, so keep an eye out for any further updates.

“The Common remains open for visitors to visit and stroll this weekend and the cafe will be open serving a wide range of refreshments.”

Due to heavy rains in recent weeks, the ground is too waterlogged for the event to take place.

The council said the car park is particularly wet and will not be dry enough to accommodate cars.

It is thought that holding the event will likely cause significant damage to the ground, particularly in grassland areas, and they do not want to risk damaging the habitat.
