Luzerne County celebrates opening of sensory room

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A project that will help children in Luzerne County is now complete.

Friday afternoon, Leadership Northeast’s Head Start Heroes group unveiled its sensory room at the Luzerne County Head Start Center on Beekman Street in Wilkes-Barre.

It was created by a team from the Leadership Class of 2024 and took several fundraisers and several months to complete.

Local legislators, Leadership Northeast members and Head Start staff gathered to celebrate with a ribbon cutting.

The Head Start children were already busy enjoying the space and using its calming features.

“Seeing the entire room today is extremely emotional, but even more emotional than seeing the kids walk in there for the first time,” said Head Start Heroes group member Chelsey Coslett.

Head Start leaders say they asked for help with the project. From Leadership Northeast. After seeing the need for a space to meet the emotional and social needs of their children.

They say this piece will help children for years.
