St. Lucie County Sheriff and School District Release Public Service Announcement to Promote School Bus Safety

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the St. Lucie County School District to raise awareness about the importance of school bus safety. The sheriff just released a public service announcement reminding drivers to stop at school bus stops. The post comes after videos showing drivers failing to stop at a school bus stop along US 1, just north of Port St. Lucie Boulevard, went viral on TikTok. Sheriff Keith Pearson said he was tagged and credits the power of social media for helping get the word out. “When Tammy messaged us, we came here and we saw with our own eyes what was happening,” Pearson said. “We saw that the bus would stop, and then we saw vehicles not stopping for that bus, they were continuing to pass and not stopping for the bus at all.” He has a message for the community. “Be careful,” Pearson said. “A lot of these people probably don’t realize they have to stop because it’s US 1 and it’s a busy highway, but it’s a school bus and when these signs come up, stop you. Sheriff Keith Pearson said he was tagged and credits the power of social media for helping get the word out.
