Kalamazoo hosts Halloween-themed health event

The Kalamazoo County Department of Health and Community Services offered flu shots with Halloween fun on Tuesday.

Families gathered in the parking lot of the agency’s Alcott Street clinic dressed as their favorite characters and creatures for a trunk-or-treat event while staying healthy.

Flu shots were available along with a handful of candy, cider, donuts and more in an effort to contain the virus before flu season.

“(If) we can get kids to be more accepting of these shots, which can be scary, that will work in our favor,” said Christina Anthony, public information officer for the Kalamazoo County Department of Health and Community Services. “Through snacks, sweets, just good fun, this is how we can encourage people to add that extra layer of protection that is respiratory illness season.”

Furry friends from West Michigan Therapy Dogs were also on hand at Tuesday’s event, as was balloon artist Scoop the Balloonatic.
