Stop The Stigma event hopes to help residents suffering from mental health

A mental health resources event was held Saturday in Valencia to provide Santa Clarita residents with mental health resources.

SATURDAY, Mental Health Connection and several other organizations welcomed “Stop the stigma» at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

“It’s our community coming together to address adult mental health because we have services for children at the Child and Family Center, we have the Senior Center, but we don’t have nothing from about 18 to 60 years old,” said Barbara Wilson, founder of Mental Health Hookup.

Stop the Stigma is a community mental health event that addresses issues in Santa Clarita suffering from mental health issues.

Event attendees were able to discover more resources for Santa Clarita Valley adults facing mental illness.

Ending the stigma of mental illness and its effects on Santa Clarita is one of HMMU’s primary goals, as is increasing community acceptance and support for people living with mental health issues.

Speakers Maizy Stern and Lauren Rettagliata were at the event and spoke about the importance of mental health.

Rettagliata is now an integral part of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and assisted the state-mandated Mental Health Commission.
