Buffalo Grove firefighters stop fire in tractor-trailer dumpster;  Save 7-story building in The Clove – Cardinal News

Buffalo Grove police, firefighters and paramedics responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 to a report that the contents of a large tractor-trailer dumpster were on fire adjacent to the utility building. mixed-use The Clove – primarily residential – which is under construction at 210 McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove.

A black smoke collector was visible from south of Dundee Road in Arlington Heights.


Buffalo Grove quickly had two handlines with water routed to the Engine 26 fire and an elevated main stream from Tower 25. The fire and heat threatened the building, but firefighters were able to stop the threat in about 10 minutes.

Fire command said the fire was extinguished around 2:40 p.m.

Firefighters checked the extent of the fire inside the 7-story residential building under construction and continued to soak the burned debris to prevent the flames from resuming. Firefighters used a power saw to cut the metal side of the semi-trailer. The roof of the semi-trailer was already open by design.

The wind was blowing from the east at 10 MPH with an air temperature of 73°F at 1:52 p.m. according to the Chicago Executive Airport NWS station in Wheeling and Prospect Heights. Black smoke was carried west by winds toward Buffalo Grove.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters and paramedics from Wheeling and Long Grove rushed each other to the scene of the fire.
