“Burning Sun” Revisited – Everyone Named in Incriminatory Chat Room and Their Roles

With BBCthe recent documentary on the enormous Burning sun scandal, the spotlight is once again on the affair. With 10 celebrities named in the chat room that was at the heart of the scandal, here’s a recap of each named party and their role.

1. Seungri

The leader of the group, Seungri was the boss and the brains behind the operation. He planned big events and took care of important clients, using this circle of friends to help him.

2. Jung Joon Young

Known as Seungri’s right-hand man, he was the most involved in the chat room besides Seungri. After a police investigation, he was found guilty of distributing 11 different illegally filmed videos of women.

3. Yong Jun Hyung

Although he initially strongly denied his involvement, he changed his statement after the chat room receipts were released. Yong Jun Hyung claims he never filmed anything himself, but was a spectator in the chat room.

4. Choi Jong Hoon

Choi Jong Hoon not only gloated about making fun of the women in the videos, but also proposed bribery to the police to cover up the group’s crimes. He was also belatedly convicted of drunk driving. The police also found that he had posted obscene videos on the chat room.

5. Roy Kim

One of the most complex cases, Roy Kim, has denied his involvement in the scandal. While he claimed not to have been part of the incriminating chat room, he admitted to sending an obscene photo to a group in 2016, including Jung Joon Young and Seungri. He claimed that he had simply seen the photo online and wanted to share the information that the photo had been photoshopped.

6. Lee Jonghyun

Although it was not established that he himself filmed illegally, he was found to be a bystander in the group, making comments amounting to sexual harassment and treating women like objects.

7. Kang In

Kang In was named when police identified him as a suspect. Kang In denied any involvement in the case, saying he only participated in the chat room before the crimes were committed.
