Police arrest two suspects in incident involving Better Hope businessman – another remains at large

TWO men have been arrested and the third managed to escape from custody as police continue their investigation into an alleged armed robbery that occurred at about 8.20pm at the Ocean View Hotel in Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, on Monday.
Police investigations reveal that the victim, a 56-year-old businessman, and his family live in a house attached to the east side of his hotel and bar building (Ocean View), where he also carries out his business.

On the aforementioned date and time, the victim was conducting business in his hotel bar when he was attacked by three unmasked suspects, all armed with pistols.
According to police, the suspects took the victim from the bar to his home at gunpoint and began demanding money and jewelry.

They then began to loot the house, but the businessman refused to comply. One of the bandits then shot the businessman in the right side of the abdomen, causing serious injuries.
Afterwards, they successfully escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry.

The businessman was rushed to a private hospital in the city, where he was admitted as a patient. His condition is stable.
After receiving a complaint, the police, based on the information received, went to Indústria at around 9 pm, when they apprehended and arrested two of the suspects.

The men have since been identified as Winston Harris, 35, of Lot 351 BB Eccles, East Bank Demerara, and Dexter Simon, 38, of Lot 54 Russell Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.
The police searched the suspects and found Simon with a black backpack containing a .32 revolver without a serial number and five corresponding live cartridges, as well as two Samsung cell phones and a toy gun.

The name of the third suspect (Kevin) was acquired from the two suspects who were captured. Police chased him in the vicinity of Ogle Old Road on the East Coast of Demerara.
During the chase, he dropped a black .38 revolver with serial number H256989 and escaped. Two live ammunition and two spent ammunition were also found. None of the stolen items (money and jewelry) were found. Investigations continue
