Babita Phogat claims she earns just Rs 1 crore from Rs 2,000 crore-grosser Dangal

Recently, former wrestler and politician Babita Phogat made some shocking revelations related to the film and the meager remuneration the family received. Babita also claimed that Aamir Khan’s team ignored them and that her request after the film became a box office hit.

In a recent chat with News 24, Babita recalled how the film came about and impacted her life. She said, “A journalist from Chandigarh wrote an article about them, which led to Nitesh Tiwari’s team getting in touch with the intention of making a documentary. “The director himself came and spoke to all of us. Then he just told us he would make a documentary about us. This was around 2010. But later, after writing it, he shared that he would like to make a film.”

Babita further added that Nitesh Tiwari first narrated the story to the family. At that time, the makers did not lock the cast. “My whole family was very emotional. When I watched the film for the first time, it felt like I went back to my childhood. I was moved,” said Babita.

When asked how much the filmmakers paid her for the rights to the story, Babita stated that she received very little money. “I received very little money. You will be surprised to know that after the entire story was written, they even discussed removing my name from the film entirely. They wanted to change the name of the character in the film.”

Before the Phogat family appeared on Aamir’s show Satyameva Jayate, the makers of Dangal approached them with a suitable script. However, after the show, the creators wanted to change the characters’ names. Babita Phogat said her father refused to tell the story of the film if the producers did not keep the characters’ real names. “It was after this that Aamir Khan’s team called us and said they wanted to change the names of the characters. our real names. The rights fees were decided long before they wrote the story, which was not even 1% of their total earnings,” revealed Babita. When asked how much she received, Babita revealed that she received just Rs 1 crore. .

The former wrestler further revealed that after the film’s release, Mahavir approached Aamir’s team to open a wrestling academy in Haryana, but they ignored the request. “After the success of the film, my father spoke to Aamir’s team and asked them to help us open a gym in Haryana for fighters, but this was ignored. It takes around 5 to 6 million rupees to open a good gym.” Dangal also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Aparshakti Khurana and Sakshi Tanwar in important roles.
