When it comes to colors that go with yellow, Gibbons says it’s best to keep the palette neutral to let a piece of furniture really shine.

“Whatever shade you choose, if your sofa is the main pop of color in the living room, remember to balance it with complementary colors so the upholstery doesn’t become overwhelming,” says Gibbons. “Neutral room ideas, such as cream walls, pair particularly well with yellows and can help the sofa become the focal point of the room rather than a mermaid.”

Gibbons also recommends surrounding the centerpiece with neutral decor; Tisdale did this via a guitar placed in the corner, as well as with a heated wooden table topped with books.
