Glenwood’s West ready to operate even more at Iowa Western | Sports

(Glenwood) – Glenwood distance runner Ethan West has discovered his passion for running over the past two years, and he will continue to do so at the next level with Iowa Western.

“At the end of the Harlan (cross country meet) this year, (Iowa Western head coach Marc Bierbaum) came up to me and said he was interested in me,” said West told KMA Sports. “I thought it looked like a great opportunity.”

West said Coach Bierbaum gave him a tour of the Council Bluffs campus and he saw everything he needed to see.

“It was really nice,” he said. “They have a lot of good things there. They have four gyms and plenty of open space. I really liked what (Coach Bierbaum) had to say about his teams. He told me it was a great place, and I agreed with him.

As West made his college decision and earned the opportunity with Reivers, he reflected on how far he has come over the past two years.

“I didn’t really start running until my junior year,” he said. “That’s when I really started training and taking it a little more seriously. I kind of realized that I really love it, and then when (Coach Bierbaum) came to me, I started wanting to run in college.
