“I’m not going to stand here and let you take my job.”

If Denver Broncos first-round pick Bo Nix thinks he’ll enter training camp and easily win the starting quarterback job from Jarrett Stidham, he’s got another thing coming.

The 2024 NFL Draft set a record for QBs taken in the first 15 picks. Not one, not two, not three but five potential prospects were selected among the first 12 picks in the April event. The fifth and final QB taken was Oregon star Bo Nix by the Denver Broncos and he should have a real chance to be the team’s starter in Week 1.

However, one of the current members of the Broncos quarterback room isn’t going to go quietly into the night when it comes to the starting QB position. Last season, Jarrett Stidham was thrust into a starting role late in the season when head coach Sean Payton and the organization officially ended the Russell Wilson era and he plans to fight to retain this place despite Payton’s love for his new QB. .

“I dealt with this before when I was in New England with Mac Jones,” Stidham told the Denver Broncos website. “It’s a business and I completely understand that, but at the same time, I’m here to compete. I’m not just going to sit back and let someone else come in here and (just take the role). I will work hard to get the job. I’m super excited about this.

Stidham is a four-year veteran who was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has made four starts in his career and is 1-3. He’s certainly not a favorite to win the starting job, and will not only have to compete with Nix, but also former New York Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson.

NFL training camps will open across the league on July 29.
